I have a personal tradition of writing a one blog entry dedicated to my birthday, whether if it’s postmarked on my birthday’s date (October 14), before the birthdate, or after the birthdate. Because I got busy celebrating my new decade landmark of my ongoing story of my life, I’m writing the entry today.
The 14th was a work day, but it was also a fun day. My birthday wish also came true too.1 My co-workers decided to hold a mini-potluck to commemorate our manager’s last day as she will be embarking on a brand-new journey that awaits her, and at the same time, celebrating my birthday. Unfortunately for me, and this was last minute too, I was scheduled for classroom training of a particular new role and that we were given the early break. Therefore, I missed the actual potluck. I didn’t miss the food though, as the peeps still had a lot of leftover food. In addition, I brought some fresh, semi-ripe (some of their orange color isn’t dark enough, thus they’re semi-ripe) persimmons to give away to the people I work with. It’s another tradition of mine on my birthday.2 Lastly, I applied for a few seasonal job positions for the upcoming peak, so hopefully, I can get one of the three and I do hope that I would get promoted to full time.
We had Vietnamese food takeout for that evening. We were supposed to go out to dinner but because of the rain, the parents are too lazy to get up and just wanted to stay home. I went ahead and ordered vermicelli plates and rice plates along with a really neat appetizer called bahn xeo (omelette-like crepe that can be wrapped inside a lettuce or mustard leaf, along with fresh basil leaves and other types of leaves, dip in fish sauce, and eat it like an eggroll). The plates were quite pricey but the prices are indeed worth it. The plates are served in such large portions, we didn’t get to finish them until the next day. The bahn xeo is quite delicious!
And speaking of bahn xeo, tonight, we will be having yet another birthday dinner, to celebrate both mine and my brother’s birthday (his is on Wednesday). I’m mentioning this because we will be going to another local restaurant that serves… gasp Vietnamese food! That should say something now, don’t you think? 😘 3
I finally got past my latest Ruby on Rails assignment last night, in which I have been working on for the last… oh… two weeks because of the previous events. At the same time, I’m already looking for some possible remote part-time jobs doing what I love to do, even if it was just technical support. I’m already looking into Automattic (because of WordPress) or GitHub (because I love Git, GitHub, and everything else related). This may help me get into transition of keeping a remote job full time when the right time comes, but for now, I will stick to something part-time while I find my ways to grow in my current company.
I’ve got plans for my site projects too. I’m still looking and debating whether I should convert my current portfolio to a WordPress site or not. I’m also looking into changing themes for all my sites run on Themify themes4 and then convert them to Divi-based child themes. I’ve got the tools and the skills to work on them, but I’m lacking some inspiration and time for me to actually start working with them.
Also, I’ve got plans for new content on The NINPOJineous. I also want to get back into writing too.

- It rained on that day. 😅 [↩]
- Yep, I give something to people on my birthday, though it’s also nice that some would give me something too. But then again, there is that saying, it’s always more fulfilling to give than to receive. 😇 [↩]
- You can’t go wrong with Vietnamese food, yo~! 👍🏽 [↩]
