This particular entry isn’t going to be a January recap entry like many other bloggers would write about. In fact, I really don’t know what to write about after changing the draft several times for the past three days. But, I’m writing now because it’s February.
February though, the month itself, is one of the most eventful months in my life. While lovers celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th, my February 14th marked our 30-year anniversary of living here in this great1 country. Still, with the darker days already kicking in 2017, it truly pains me that we are having all these ridiculous, unconstitutional regulations being “passed” by some government I no longer recognize. This immigration ban isn’t plain unjust and inhumane to all immigrants,2 but also unconstitutional. The relatives that we hope we’d be able to sponsor to have a new life here is no longer impossible for us.
Luckily for me, I live in California, but I’m not gonna go on and on about that.
I’m going along with my SQL classes. I remember the basics of SQL, but I also want to learn the more complex features of database management, such as functions and other complex database concepts. I’m itching to go back to learning basic Ruby again, and find ways that I could do to practice. I am also reading the children’s editions of some programming books, because really, we were all children once and that our minds can be fresh. The very cute Hello Ruby children’s book gives us a bit of an intro to the Ruby language.
Ever since my visit to The Face Shop and purchased my first dose of Korean skincare products, I couldn’t help myself but go back again for more. I recently bought a deodorant spray because of its light scent. I would normally buy the drugstore brands, but then I have been feeling kind of nauseated from its really strong smell. I’ve purchased The Face Shop Kakao Friends Deodorant Spray3 and also been using Boscia Charcoal Deodorant powder spray. They both neutralize the odors without the overwhelming scent.
Speaking of Korean skincare, I’ve recently added a first serum (Kakao Friends line) into my skin regimen, and for my night regimen, I use a face mask or any other types of masks that I have (clay mask, peel-off charcoal mask, etc.) once or twice a week. The face masks, soaked in natural essence lotion/juice/cream, and then wearing it on your face and wait for 15-20 minutes, for me, is probably what differs Korean skincare routine from the Japanese skincare routine.4 I’ve been loving the face masks so much that I plan to buy more. Best of all, they’re cheap too.
As for my video gaming, I’ve mentioned before that I’m taking a bit of a hiatus from Final Fantasy XV and turn to my mobile to catch an imaginary bishounen boyfriend in a Korean otome game called Mystic Messenger. Mikari and I have been going gaga over one particular guy on Twitter, and after playing another route before him, I then realized, there was no one else in that game other than him.5 I’ve been posting some screen videos of myself playing Mystic Messenger on YouTube, but mostly dedicated to him. Why? Because there is no one else out there in MM other than him. 💓
Eventually, I will go back to FFXV, as soon as I “minimize” my more important goals. I also await for the upcoming goodies await for MM too. But first, real life missions.
And right now, I am looking for a remote job in web development. Even a customer service job, as long as I’m able to work at home, be closer to my ailing father. Of course, at the same time with aiding clients who are in need of a site or helping out other web developers in training like me, there will be money much higher than what I’m earning right now. Along with the whole ageism issue that’s been hanging around in my mind right now, I’m also wondering how my parents would react if I decide to go to the remote route. They’re open to many things but at the same time, they’re also traditionalists. My sister, from time to time, works at home, and yet the parents get skeptical about her not working in the office.
Now, if I did end up having a remote job, it wouldn’t necessarily mean that I will be locking up myself in my room for work. Knowing my dad, he would often remind me to get out more often and explore the world and the life I may be missing. And if I do end up having a remote job, I will be working from anywhere. If I feel like going out, it would either be the neighborhood coffee shop or a trip to the mighty beaches of the Pacific Ocean,6 where I can have some peace and quiet (except for nature) and concentrate on my work while being happy all at the same time.
I’m afraid that my attention span is getting worse and worse. I kept pushing myself to focus and yet all these distractions (as you can tell) are really getting in the way. If I go back to doing some art to focus, I feel like the art would be the one that needs more focus than my intentional goals. It’s just like with this blog entry, for example. Originally, the draft was written last Wednesday (February 1), and yet for the past three days, I kept on changing the content because I wanted to write something else over my original plans.
This is a bad sign. I hope it’s not some kind of an early Alzheimer’s Disease or something. Once I’ve reached 40, let’s just say, adulthood reality is beginning to kick in.
Right now, I’m currently playing around with my CodePen account. I’m taking notes and doing some testing, as you can see. If we’re talking about other people “stealing code” from other people’s websites,7 this is the best way for you to test and learn other people’s codes without getting accused of stealing in the first place.
I want to write a fanfic too… and now I’m conflicted between FFXV and MM. I think with MM, it’d be very easy to do a Mary Sue, since the main female lead of the game happens to be you.8 FFXV, on the other hand, I think just a gallery fansite of Prompto’s photographs would be a lot easier, because it’s such an open game, so to speak.
Well, it’s Sunday. Good thing it’s my weekend. 😇
On the sidenote...
- well, it was great back then, today… I can’t say the same… [↩]
- we’re not just talking about illegal immigrants here… might as well include many American citizens who were once immigrants… that would be me and my family… [↩]
- Kakao is a messenger app, kind of like LINE, known for having a colorful cast of characters featured in the app. And yes, it’s a South Korean messenger app compared to the Japanese LINE. [↩]
- Well, I wouldn’t say that, because I think Japanese skincare also offers serum-soaked face masks too… [↩]
- I love you, 707… 💖 [↩]
- with mobile hotspot of course… [↩]
- in MM, they call the main character as “MC,” which stands for, well, “main character.” You as a player can change the female lead’s name to any other name, including yourself. I decided to name the MC after me, of course. [↩]
