After two months and a week of being unemployed, I have finally found a new full-time job.
Let me tell you a bit about how bad our unemployment rate is in this country. Everyday on the news I hear more and more people losing more jobs than people actually getting a new job. It’s so bad that you can even go further in to saying that majority of the population in this country couldn’t afford living here anymore because of the rising unemployment rate and as we know it, our see-sawing economy. But anyway, all I can say about my new job is that this is the type of job that I’ve never done before and the type of job that I would never have thought of getting in to.
It’s a designing job, but not necessarily a graphic and/or web designing job. It was more of interior closet design that it’s not just a designing job, but it’s also a sales job. I get pre-set appointments from the branch office, giving me information regarding the client, and I have to drive to that client’s house in order to do the measurements, draft up a sketch map of the top view and the front view of what the closet is going to be like. I also had to make notes and instructions for the installer to follow in order for them to install the closet system. The job is also a commission job (since it is a sales job, technically) and if I don’t succeed in getting a sale then there’s no pay (or little pay, I’m still unclear on how we’re getting paid).
On the other hand, I need to improve my customer service skills. I’ve been working at a closed office where I don’t interact with any “customers” (I’m more of a B2B person than a P2P person) except when it’s over the phone or on email and I had very little interaction with people in general except your co-workers and your boss. I’ve applied to temp agencies for any work including entry level data entry admin assistant-type of jobs, but majority of them are all 1 or 2-month temporary jobs. I can’t afford to have a temp job that only lasts for 1 or 2 months. Now if it were a temp-to-hire then I’ll be glad to take it. Majority of the job openings out there are all sales jobs (even my job board email alerts all provided me with sales jobs. When I saw this opening at a closet organizer company for a designer sales I applied for it. I got interviewed a few weeks later and I got one of the opening slots. Today was my first day for training. I may have my first job assignment on Saturday afternoon depending on the lead I receive from the branch office.
I like training so far. It’s a bit difficult at first due to the math, but I’ll be looking forward to tomorrow’s training day.
